TEACHING LANGUAGE SKILLS

Teaching and learning are two basic processes underlying the activity of students and teachers nowadays. Learning process puts both parties toward each other, what it teaches, and what it takes, the teacher and the student. The purpose of this training material is to show ways on teaching/learning of all skills (macro and micro) during a lesson hour/a semester/a year. Therefore, teachers should set their own standards for an EFL/ESL classroom. They should work to create the necessary condition for their students to learn effectively and reach the desired outcome. For the teaching of English to be successful, the four macro skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as the micro skills like vocabulary and grammar should be integrated in an effective way. Each unit of this training material is also supported with reflections on appropriate theories and practical activities.

Yosef Zewdu (PhD) is an assistant professor in TEFL. Wubante Mekonnen and Zelalem Ayalew are currently PhD candidates in TEFL, at Debre Markos University and Bahir Dar University respectively, in Ethiopia.
