Jamaica, like other countries has been plagued withthe problem of providing quality education for itsgrowing population. Research evidence supports theclaim that it is crucial to change the wayprospective teachers are trained for them to berelevant in our continuously changing globalvillage. Teacher education programs must tackleserious issues acquired and embedded in theeducation system, the curriculum, and the social andenvironmental conditions that impinge on theperformance of prospective teachers. Relevantpublished literature on teacher education andteaching practice in Jamaica, and the Caribbean hasnot been readily available, hence the reliance onresearch from North America to inform, and enrichteacher educators? understanding of the teaching-practice experience at the teaching-practice sites.This book therefore provides an opportunity forprofessionals in teacher education, prospectiveteachers, and people genuinely interested ineducation to examine research, the authenticexperiences, and perceptions of student teachers andtheir supervisory teachers, during the teachingpractice exercise.
