Technology in Language Pedagogy

This book touches on major pedagogical and linguistic aspects related to ICT-based language learning and teaching with a focus on English in contexts where it is not a mother-tongue. It is meant for those who want to get a bird's-eye view of laudable contributions of modern information and communication technology (ICT) to L2 pedagogy. It brings to the foreground the merits and demerits of technology integration in L2 education. The book discusses how ICT platforms increase chances of getting authentic, communicative, and acculturated exposure to the target language. While ICT poses intricate challenges to language learners and teachers in terms of accessibility, reliability, and technological expertise, it opens up a whole gamut of possibilities to increase engagement, interactivity, and motivation for learning inside and outside the classroom. Abdu Talib Al-Kadi, a faculty member at the Language and Translation Center, Ibb University, obtained his Ph.D. and MA in Applied Linguistics from the ISLT, Carthage University in Tunis. He has been teaching EFL and ESP at the tertiary level. His major areas of interest include Netlinguistics, SLA, CALL, MALL, and ESP.
