Details

This book is a political economy analysis of the
policy and regulatory environment of Internet
deployment in Ghana. It identifies three models of
Internet deployment in Ghana; private-corporate,
social-development, and regional-system provider.
Also it addresses key issues regarding the
management of the Internet industry by Ghana s
regulatory body; the National Communications
Authority (NCA). It is based on information gathered
through interviews and document analysis. I discuss
the Internet in Ghana using the concepts of public
interest and the social, political and economic
issues related to policy making and regulation in
telecommunications. I do this discussion with the
background of major Ghanaian policy and regulatory
documents like the Accelerated Development Program
(1994-2000), and the National Telecommunications
Policy (NTP). My discussion ends with the
proposition that Ghana s regulatory body should in
the spirit of the theory of convergence in
comparative public policy adopt feasible policies
and regulations from other economies.
