Tellichery Goats: under Deep Litter System
Details
Goats, considered one of the hardiest animals ever to be domesticated by man, are an important source of income and occupation to a sizeable population comprising mainly the economically and socially backward classes of the society in India. Over the past decade, considerable research has been carried out on various aspects of goat production. The ultimate goal is to increase the value of feed resources by converting them into animal products such as milk, meat, hides and skins. The magnitude of efficiency of this process depends on factors such as nutrition, management, health and socio-economic conditions that have to be considered in any production system. In this study an attempt is made to compare the performance of apopular breed of goats, the Tellichery goats under confined rearing on deep litter vis-à-vis conventional range system of management. This book, a part of MVSc thesis submitted to the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai will be useful to aspiring farmers, entrepreneurs and researchers.
