Temperate Fruit Production

The valley of Kashmir is known as fruit bowl of the country particularly temperate fruits as it has traditionally specialized in growing apple, pear, peach, plum, cherry apricot, almond, walnut & grapes etc with outstanding and unparalleled taste and fragrance .Temperate fruit production is yielding annual revenue of about Rs 3500 Crores to the state, involving about two million families. Being mainstay of state s economy fruit production needs special attention by way of technological innovation and refinement to enhance productivity and improve quality. Detailed accounts of orchard establishment, nutritional requirements, pest and disease control, pollination, varietal description, classification, breeding, orchard management practices and propagation techniques of each kind of fruit have been documented. The book is designed to meet the course requirements of those studying fruit science at the post graduate level. Professor K. D Farooqui, received advanced training and education in Fruit Breeding in France and England. He evolved high quality, high yielding and Scab resistant apple varieties; remained actively involved in teaching; received Gold Medal and "Shiksha Ratan Puraskar" Award. Indian Council of Agriculture Research awarded him Professor Emeritus.
