This book focusses on eight variant LXX/MT texts that form the basis of the doctrinal New Testament book of Hebrews--texts such as the last significant and enduring act of Israel in Genesis 32:43; the eschatological last verse of the last song of Moses, Deuteronomy 32:43; the transitional covenantal text indicating the transition from the old covenant to the new, in Jeremiah 31:31-34; the important theoretical and historical foundational text of the New Testament Epistle to the Hebrews and indeed of the whole of New Testament theology, Psalm 40: 6-8; the singular applicatory foundational text of the New Testament Books of Romans, Galatians and Hebrews, indeed the of the whole of New Testament theology and the great Renaissance, Habakkuk 2:3-4; etc, as enumerated in the table of contents.

Philip Engmann is a lecturer in Old Testament studies. His interest focusses on Old Testament Textual Criticism, and is intrigued with the variances that occur particularly between the LXX and the MT. His first book, Textual Criticism of the LXX and the MT focussed in detail on all kinds of variances that occurred between LXX and MT Psalm 8:5-7.
