The Animated Work Environment
Details
Dramatic transformations in the nature, place and
organization of working life in an increasingly
digital society suggest a redesign of the work
environment as a socially and technologically
responsive system, occupying both home and office.
This work examines the design, prototyping,
evaluation and significance of an Animated Work
Environment [AWE]. At the scale of a cubicle, AWE is
a physical-digital space accommodating fluid
assemblages of people working with printed and
digital materials in a variety of locations and settings.
The outcome of a transdisciplinary research effort
extending across the disciplines of Architecture,
Robotics, Sociology and Human Factors Psychology, AWE
demonstrates how human needs and wants combined with
the aspirations of Architecture and Robotics can
guide design patterns and possibilities for working
life in the Information World.
