The Arab "Spring" of Egypt
Details
By the late of 2010, a tidal wave of protests emerged and quickly engulfed much of the Arab world, in a snowball fashion, in a phenomena which is commonly called as the Arab Spring. In a number of key countries (e.g., Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Yemen), long-standing autocratic regimes were toppled. The main focus of this thesis is on the Egyptian case, as a cornerstone country in the sequence of Arab Spring uprisings. We analyze in detail some of the internal social, economical and political causes behind the people's uprising in Egypt in addition to some of the external and geo-political factors. Furthermore, we analyze the various events and changes that have happened in Egypt since the fall of Mubarak's regime in February 2011 and till the election of Abdulfatah Elsisi as the new president of Egypt in May 2014. Finally, we provide an outlook to the prospects for political, social and economical changes in Egypt as a result of the 25th January uprising.
