The Asia Pacific Region

In the 1980s a de facto economic bloc was emerging on the eastern edge of the Pacific-The 'Asia Pacific' region which was shaped more by market- based trade and investment relationships than any formal institutional structure. The region has a powerful global presence geographically demographically and economically, leading to the term -The Asian Century. The book undertakes to analyze some aspects of the growth, trade and investment patterns in the region. India has been referred to as the next giant after China. If India is to achieve sustained growth then there are several areas where new initiatives need to be taken. A comparative study of India and the Asia Pacific on socio economic issues is undertaken and lessons drawn from their growth experience. The trade and investment links of India with Asia Pacific are analyzed. The study sheds light on the export opportunities for India in the region and identifies 30 top export items having an export potential in Asia Pacific. The book should be useful for international bodies, policy framers and regulators, global businesses, economists, academicians, researchers and political scientists in Asian studies.
