The Awakening of Angels in the House

The book is composed of Introduction, Conclusion and Four main Chapters. Introduction involves the historical background about 'New Women' concept which is indicated the changing role of women in search of self-assertion and freedom in patriarchal societies. The four main chapters present four leading feminist figures who depicted the struggle of women in male dominated societies through the analysis of their short fiction. Kate Chopin' 'The Story of an Hour', Katherine Mansfield's 'Bliss', Doris Lessing's 'To Room Nineteen' and Charlotte Perkins Gilman's 'The Yellow Wallpaper' are the stories analyzed in this book. As a whole, this book includes the analysis of four stories based on the struggle of women in patriarchal societies that have imposed roles and rules on women.

Dr. Senem Üstün Kaya obtained her PhD degree from Ankara University, English Language Department in 2009. Since then she has worked as Lecturer at Bäkent University, Faculty of Education. Several of her articles were published in reputed journals. She is also one of the authors of 'Practising the Use of Instructional Technology'.
