The Beuron Painting of the Benedictine Monastery of São Paulo: 1914-1922

Beuronese art is little studied in Brazil, but we have some examples of this production that are very eloquent. The monumental sacred mural painting inside the Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption, in the São Bento Monastery in São Paulo - Brazil, has a complete visual programme and is in a good state of preservation. It was realised by a direct disciple of the master Dom Desiderius Lenz, the monk Dom Adelbert Gresnicht. In 1914, Dom Adelbert, after finishing the ornamentation of the Mother House of the Bendictines in Monte Cassino - Italy, went to Brazil accompanied by Friar Clement Freischauf, and together they realised the liturgical visual programme for this church.
