The Cardiovascular Effects Of A Polyherbal Formulation
Details
Objective: To determine the in vitro free radical scavenging property and in vivo diuretic and anti hyperlipidemic properties of Triglize TM, a marketed polyherbal formulation (PHF) in experimental animal models. Materials and Methods: The aqueous extract of PHF was used for the experiment. The free radical scavenging property and antioxidant effect of PHF were studied by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced free radicals in rat macrophages cells and DPPH (2, 2-Diphenyl-1-Picrylhydrazyl) methods, respectively. The diuretic and anti hyperlipidemic properties of a PHF were studied with Lipschitz model and high fat diet model respectively, using male Wistar rats. Results: PHF significantly inhibited LPS -induced free radicals in rat macrophages and it showed moderate antioxidant potential in DPPH model. The diuretic effect of PHF was as similar as furosemide and the anti- hyperlipidemic effect is comparable with atorvastatin. Conclusion: The PHF has significant free radical scavenging properties, diuretic and anti hyperlipidemic effects.
