The relationship between academic performance and
interscholastic athletics has been popular among
researchers. African American and Hispanic student
athletes confront various influences daily that may
affect their academic achievement goals. This
research investigates how student athletes balance
academics, sports and other activities. Today's
student athlete have admirable qualities and skill
sets, which are not widely discuss in the
mainstream. The researcher has assessed indicators,
such as socioeconomic status, time use patterns,
sports participation and race, within the
construct of academic achievement among African
American and Hispanic males student athletes. Learn

Dr.Riley received his doctoral degree from the University of
Central Florida in Education. His area specialization is Sports
Leadership. Prior to his current position,Dr. Riley served in the
U.S. Navy. He has received honors and awards including National
Dean s List, National Holmes Scholar and Outstanding Young Men in
America.
