The Cinderella Stories: Lessons I Learned From my Grandmother
Details
"This peace that I have,
the world didn''t give it to me.
And if the world didn''t give it,
The world can''t take it away.
This joy that I have,
the world didn''t give it to me.
And if the world didn''t give it,
The world can''t take it away."
These lyrics, more than any other,
encapsulate the spirit of Cinderella
Whitfield. The Cinderella Stories brings to center
stage the life of a woman some may consider ordinary.
Yet, her life mirrors the extraordinary --- inner
peace in the time of war, unwavering faith in the
time of cynicism, and love in the time of strife.
Cinderella is born in 1930 in the small Southern
town of Hernando, Mississippi. As a young woman, she
divorces an abusive husband and migrates to
Memphis in search of a better life. By age thirty,
she is a single mother charged with the
responsibility of raising six children on her own.
Along her journey, she meets her prince
and begins to live out her own fairy tale.
The Cinderella Stories is a work steeped in memory
and faith.
