The decline of Passer domesticus in India and Conservation Priorities
Details
This book offers an interesting study on Passer domesticus (House sparrows) and the probable reasons for its decline in India. There are interesting illustrations provided in this book on the nesting of the House sparrows and the conservation measures that could be adopted to reverse the decline. The House sparrow (Passer domesticus) is a gregarious bird, belongs to the family Passeridae and is closely associated with human habitation. In Indian cities, House sparrows have shown a declining trend. Though there are several reasons cited for their disappearance from India and around the world, there are no strong evidences to substantiate these facts. We investigated the possible reasons of their decline in a southern district of India, Tiruchirappalli.
