The Development of the Psyche and its Impact on Health
Details
This book attempts to trace some key ideas about the origins and content of the psyche, and its subsequent development, in the first eighteen months of life. Throughout, references will be made to the link between the psyche and the soma, until, in the final chapter, greater emphasis will be placed on demonstrating that link, particularly with regard to health. Key perspectives from both a Jungian position and that of neuroscience and systems theory will be placed side by side in order to facilitate a better understanding of how one may impact upon the other. This is embedded within some ideas taken from the latest thinking in quantum physics. Furthermore, the objective is to illustrate the relevance of this knowledge to a clinical psychotherapeutic situation. Ultimately, given the current governmental push to get psychotherapists and counsellors to provide a proven evidence base for their work, this book aims to illustrate the usefulness of linking depth psychology with the new science' in all its subsets.
