The effects of anxiety on EFL students' oral performance
Details
The study is conducted in order to investigate the effect of foreign language anxiety and its impact on learners' performance in the learning process, especially on Master Students' oral performance. It also seeks to discover the appropriate strategies that help students reduce their fear. In this research work, we hypothesize that (1) there is a significant correlation between foreign language anxiety and English language students' poor performance. (2) If learners can overcome their anxiety in learning then they will be able to gain high self-confidence and motivation to learn. Data are collected via questionnaires administered to both teachers and students and semi-structured interviews with Master One students of the department of English at Chadli Bendjedid University-El Tarf. The study revealed that most foreign language learners are anxious while performing orally, and this negatively influences the learning process.
