The Environmental Question in favor of Architectural Quality

Architecture and urban planning need to be rethought in the light of environmental and social issues. The author denounces disposable architecture, designed quickly and cheaply, which results in generic cities devoid of identity. This book invites us to give priority to thoughtful design, using sustainable materials that are more costly but long-lasting, for buildings that are high-quality, sustainable and meaningful. The urgent need is to avoid systematic destruction in order to rebuild, and to value local culture, climate and history. We need to take the time to think each project through, encouraging citizen participation, participative housing and eco-responsible construction. Passivity in the face of ecological challenges is a mistake. Architects and professionals must commit themselves fully, mobilizing their intelligence and creativity to serve the general interest. Architecture must not only respond to the economy, but reflect an identity, a social and ecological commitment. It's time to move towards collective responsibility, to build cities that are sustainable, balanced and in harmony with their environment.
