The essence of Acountability

Over the decades, despite changes of rulers and ruling philosophies, Ethiopia's Television station has always been owned and operated by the state. This monopoly has no doubt, affected how and what various stake holders think about the sation's crdibility, trustworthiness, responsibility and accountability.As a public entity, ETV has an obligation to serve the public and a responsible journalist must be accountable to the society that is dependent on media information.. However, ETV journalists say there is a gap between the theory and their practice,idealy the newsroom is accountable to the public but there is no mechanism to investifate what the public interest is and how to handle its complaints.According to them the newsroom is accountable to the executives or government officials rather than the public.They agree that the publ;ic is muted as result of nesroom's stand on accountability.
