The Evolution of Rowing Technology
Details
Rowing has been around since the time of the Ancient Greeks. However, the sport has undergone much innovation in the last 40 years alone and it is exciting to think what the future still has in store for the sport. Nevertheless, the art of wooden boat building is unfortunately dying out. Rowing is a sport where stiffness and lightness is everything. A stiff boat with stiff oars will ultimately give the best performance in water and the equipment needs to be lightweight to help the crew achieve maximum speeds. There have been great technological advancements that have changed the working boat to the racing shell. Moreover, the future of rowing equipment lies in the hands of the material scientists. Whatever the next step will be it is certain that the sport will enjoy a long and steady future.
