Details

Rotor disc intended for normal use in are commonly produced by gravity casting. If the cooling process and the initial temperature of the mold are not well controlled, shrinkage cavity will occur after solidification, causing leakage in the disc wheel. In this research, casting simulation software is used to simulate the casting process of rotor disc. Through improving gating system and add reasonable risers, optimal process parameters scheme is got. It is shown that, when the correct selection of the initial factors of simulation is made, satisfactory results are obtained in most cases. The Pro Cast software, based on the Finite element Method, is considered in this research because it is rather faster, accurate than the Finite Difference Method and easier to use as it would not produce meshing gaps. The user interface is easy to understand and user friendly An effective gating system has been proposed by modifying the gating system to the initial gating system to overcome casting defects which were observed in the initial gating system design.
