The Frog in the Hot Water
Details
In this qualitative study of parents at an adolescent drug and alcohol rehbilitation centre, parents describe their journey into their adolescent child''s addictive life. They describe how they tried to manage a problem it would take too long to understand. During the journey, marriages become strained, siblings are neglected and chaos descends on every family member. Parents try desprately to find an explanation willing to explore any possible solution. The book quotes extenisvely from these parents who have generously told their stories in the hope that other parents may discover the truth sooner and thus get help quicker. Dr. Choate also illustrates the struggles that parents have with professionals who all too often fail to be of assistance. The reader will have a much clearer understanding of how families can be more effectively supported.
