The History of Debrebirihan Town since 1974

Debrebrehan was said to have been founded by Emperor Zereyaiqob in response to a miraculous light that was a sign from God showing his approval for the death by stoning of a group heretics 38 days before. The emperor ordered church to be built on, and later constructed an extensive palace nearby, dedicated to saint Crocus, which is Christian martyr who was killed in the persecution of Diocletian zany who spent twelve of the last four years of his life in Debrebrehan. Historian Richard Pankhurst offers the year 1456 as the date of the founding of his church providing plausible augment that the light in the sky which could have been in sheaf that year. Although the traditional date, the 10th day of the month of March do not coincide with the comet was visible thirteen through seventeen June.
