From the Gothic publishers to the circulating libraries, this study explores the conflict between the canon and the twilight, and between the disreputable and the moral.

He has written extensively on the trade Gothic, the Gothic chapbook industry and author Sarah Wilkinson, and is Editor of The Monster Made by Man, a Compendium of Gothic Adaptations.
