This book is an achievement, a personal accomplishment, which would never have been possible without the influence of Dr Helton Monteiro Mendes, a specialist in Criminal Law, an integral person who has fought hard for the legal profession, in favour of the fundamental rights of citizens. Human rights are not a joke. In the not too distant past, some people were not considered people, let alone human beings. Ensuring a fair trial means realising popular sovereignty.
