The internationalisation of performing arts in Finland

Based on P. Bourdieu's concept of field, this book aims to analyse the role played by the internationalisation of the performing arts in the careers of stage directors and choreographers in Finland. Through a number of interviews, it analyses the relationship these artists have with an international field of the performing arts and how they use this relationship to develop their careers in Finland. Finally, it also shows how the degree to which Finnish performing arts are integrated into this international field encourages or discourages artists' interest in what is happening outside Finnish borders.

Luc Gérardin divides his time between France and Finland. He studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and at Science Po Strasbourg, where he obtained a Master's degree in cultural policy and management. He has worked in a number of theatres and performing arts companies in both countries, and his experiences have provided the material for this dissertation.
