The job description of end-of-life carers and companions

End-of-life carers/companions place birth and death in consensus and contrast the phases. Parallels are drawn with the attempt to bring them into harmony in terms of their meanings. The terms 'end-of-life carer/companion' no longer stand for just a training course, but for an attitude that is filled with meaning, personality, professionalism and content. This job description also involves an intense focus on life, dealing with and overcoming life crises, resolving fears and addressing existential questions. The aim of the work is always to develop and support the competence of those affected to find their own individual paths.

Jana Brüschke, born and raised in Berlin in 1978, now lives with her family in North Frisia. She works as a lecturer and medical assessor and has been accompanying the dying and bereaved for more than 20 years. She has been a certified end-of-life midwife since 2006 and completed her Master of Advanced Studies in Palliative Care in Vienna in 2016.
