The Kurdish Question in Turkey in the third millennium

In 2002 the newly established Islamic-sensitive Justice and Development Party (AKP) rose to power and since then it, rather than the secular, western- oriented Kemalist establishment,has been the major supporter of full EU membership launching an aggressive reform program' aimed at restructuring the Turkish political system and the Kemalist ideology at its basis. AKP's project of 're- construction'concerned directly the Kurdish Question whose possible solution lies in the redefinition of the founding principles of the Republic. This work which is the result of both bibliographic study and field-research in Turkey tries to give an insight into the AKP's understanding of the Kurdish Question, its ideas,strategies and policies implemented since 2002. It investigates if the AKP paved the way for a re-thinking of the Kurdish issue and the emergence of a new approach different from the traditional military and economic solutions'. The book will be useful and interesting for students of political and social sciences, professors,researchers, policy makers and everyone interested into Turkey's current political situation.

Carlotta Grisi, born in 1984. Bachelor in History, Cultures and Oriental Civilizations, Master of International and Diplomatic Relations both at Bologna University. After spending a period in Turkey for her master thesis research she is now tied together with this country and lives between Italy and the South-eastern regions of Turkey
