THE LETHARGY OF THE NUBILE

The foundations of patronages dedicated to the endowment of maidens were abundant during the sixteenth century, this Brotherhood has the characteristic that it was dedicated solely and exclusively to grant dowries to poor maidens for their marriage. Another characteristic, and therefore another of the fundamental motives, was that all the members that integrated it belonged to the Sevillian nobility and within it, they stood out for their culture. Within the nobility, the Brotherhood chose the most economically important and intellectually prepared members.
