The liberalisation of the National Produce Marketing Board in Cameroon
Details
This is a thought-provoking book, which has holistically shed light on the main factors accountable for the liquidation of the National Produce Marketing Board (NPMB) in Cameroon in the early 1990s, and the extent to which this has affected the coffee economy in Kumbo Sub-division. Against this backdrop, this book has contended that albeit remote factors such as mismanagement, politicisation, fluctuation of coffee prices at the world market, and the economic crisis of the 1980s cannot be disregarded, the present predicaments of coffee producers, and dwindling coffee production in Kumbo Sub-division can better be appreciated within the effectuation of the imperialist western imposed Structural Adjustment Programs (SAP)of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and/or the World Bank by the Cameroon government in the early 1990s. These structural measures among other things, called for the closure of the NPMB, which hitherto stabilised domestic coffee prices. As such, this book is highly resourceful and recommended to students, researchers and professionals in Political Economy and Agro-Institutions
