THE LIVING CONDITIONS OF THE URBAN SLUM DWELLERS

The rapid growth of urbanization together with lack of proper environmental safeguards has been a cause of serious concern. The deteriorating urban environment is the cause of many health hazards such as cancer, heart diseases, stress, etc. Andhra Pradesh is one state in India which has been experiencing rapid urbanization. Visakhapatnam city has been the fastest growing urban area in India since 1971. The population of the city has increased at a faster rate in the recent years due to rapid industrialization. In this context, this study focuses on the living conditions of the urban dwellers in Visakhapatnam city.
