In the worlds of criminal justice and psychology, the insanity defence is a controversial subject, the general public believe that it can be abused and allow criminals to get away with committing horrific crimes. Others contend that the insanity plea is necessary to protect the mentally unstable. This dissertation provides a discussion on the insanity defence, how it works in the criminal justice system, and how it relates to psychology to some extent.

Zina was born in 1985 in Kuwait, she moved to Prague in 1990 escaping the Gulf War. A year later she immigrated to England. Zina completed a law degree and a Masters at the University of Hertfordshire before finishing her Bar Vocational Course at City University in 2008. She dedicates this book to her late father Adnan Sabih Jamil.
