Mesalamine is a drug of choice for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. Mesalamine has been shown to block the production of interlukin-1 (1L-1) and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-alpha. Further,MSA is found to have free radical scavenger and antioxidant effect. Therefore, the aim shall be to understand the analytical, physical and spectral attributes of this most useful drug molecule. This Monograph explores solubility aspects, hygroscopicity, partition coefficient, FTIR-spectroscopic analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, TGA, X-ray diffraction, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR spectroscopic analysis. The chapter on analytical profile employing UV-Visible spectroscopic method, spectrofluorimetric method and HPLC method (Blood Plasma, Rat caecal content, etc.)are useful for the researcher.
