Details

The Molecular Immunology of Neurological Diseases provides a comprehensive review of current updates in molecular immunogenetics of different neurological diseases. Readers will learn about the role of immune cells and their modulation strategies to help in the development of therapeutic approaches for both acute and chronic neurodegenerative disorders. There is no other book available on the topic. It has long been thought that the brain is an immune-privilege organ with very limited immune response. However recent studies have made clear that both systemic 'brain' and peripheral 'blood' immune cell responses play key roles in determining brain pathology in neurodegenerative disorders.

This book summarizes the role of immune cell activation in the central nervous system microenvironment in acute and chronic neurodegenerative disorders. In addition, it discusses the key role of immune cells and their modulation strategies for the development of current therapeutic approaches.

Autorentext
Sunil Kumar received his master's degree in biotechnology from Devi Ahilya University, Indore, in 2006 and his PhD in biotechnology from the Department of Gastroenterology, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, in 2011. He completed postdoctoral training at Gangnam Severance Hospital, Yonsei University, South Korea, and later at the UNESCO Regional Centre for Biotechnology, India, where he worked on Salmonella-mediated alterations in host SUMOylation and infection biology. His research interests include infection biology and the molecular immunology of neurological diseases. He joined Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University, Barabanki, in 2013 as a founding faculty member of the Department of Biotechnology and currently serves as Associate Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Biosciences. He has supervised numerous undergraduate, master's, and doctoral research projects, with several students receiving national research fellowships. Kumar has authored more than forty peer-reviewed publications, ten book chapters, and edited five books with international publishers. He serves as associate editor for Current Molecular Pharmacology and Current Signal Transduction Therapy, and as a reviewer and editorial board member for multiple journals. His international collaborations span institutions in Serbia, Slovenia, and Portugal, as well as leading research centers in India. He is a life member of several scientific societies and an executive council member of the Society for Biotechnologists (India).
