This research seeks to understand the management of natural resource conflicts in the Savannah belt in Sudan, focusing on the interaction between indigenous and central governmental conflict management mechanisms. By analyzing the various actors' perceptions, interests and needs regarding different conflict management mechanisms, the study aims to indicate conflict management mechanisms appropriate to the Savannah region in Sudan. Conceptionally, the research explores how approaches from legal pluralism and conflict transformation can be synthesized and adapted to a different cultural setting to analyze how to mitigate environmental conflicts.

Dr. Mey Eltayeb Ahmed was born in Atbara; she has a MSc in Environmental Studies,Post Graduate in Regional Development Planning, and a BSc in Environmental Sciences. Ms Ahmed has prolonged experience with different non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and consultant groups. Ahmed has lectured in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and USA.
