The execution of pedalling itself is a complicated process that requires numerous qualities: a sense of style, knowledge of harmony and a lively approach to the content of the piece being played. Of considerable importance is introverted musicality - that sensitivity to timbre that allows the pianist to skilfully colour the sound and achieve the appropriate expressiveness.
