The performance-based financing (PBF) approach
Details
In Congo, as in most health systems in sub-Saharan Africa, the performance-based financing (PBF) approach is gaining momentum. What is this method of financing and what are its objectives? In this book, we will attempt to answer these two questions. Above all, this book aims to analyze the contribution of PBF to the governance of health facilities in the Congo. To achieve this, data from 214 health facilities, representing 86% of the total population of the Congo, were analyzed. In addition, open-ended interviews were conducted with a few actors from the various stakeholders. MS Excel software for graphing and District Health Information System (DHIS 2) were used to process the data. The results show that an improvement in governance was indeed observed in the health facilities subject to the BPF. This is due to the dynamic and flexible nature of the various tools of the PBF approach, which are aimed at improving the performance of health facilities.
