The Personalism of Emmanuel Mounier

Mounier's Personalism presents itself as an iconoclastic thought, opposing the philosophical tradition that would have us proceed from thought to reality. Personalism would rather like to proceed from reality to the concept in order to elaborate the truth. Personalism aims as a method and not as a system, to fight the established disorder of the 20th century, caused by modernity. Its main objective is to educate the individual on the path to emancipation, so that he or she may become an actor in the humanization of our world. Personalism is a philosophy that makes man the sole actor of his own development.
