The piano in the orchestra
Details
The training of pianists is generally oriented to the study of solo repertoire. This fact often makes us forget about possible professional opportunities that the piano students themselves are unaware of and that can also be extremely enriching for their musical development, such as being a pianist in an orchestra. The truth is that there is an enormous lack of knowledge and interest in the world of piano in the orchestra. The academic curriculum of most conservatories does not help students to learn about it, and there is not much literature on the subject. Not to mention that playing the piano in an orchestra requires specific skills that are rarely worked on during the formative stage. This research aims to show the symphonic repertoire that includes the piano within the orchestral staff and the function that this instrument has been acquiring within it. We will also reflect on the interpretative skills required by this practice.
