THE POLITICAL ROLE OF SERBIAN ACADEMICS AFTER THE FALL OF MILOSEVIC

It is widely believed that a part of the Serbian intellectual elite should be held responsible for the outbursts of nationalism in the 1980's, justification of the Greater Serbian ideas in the 1990's, and for hindering the europeisation of Serbia by reviving old hatreds and constructing the new ones. This paper concentrates on the role and impact of some of the most exposed intellectuals from the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and examines their political role in the post-Milosevic period.

Matej Dornik was born in 1980 in Slovenia. After completing his studies of International Relations at Ljubljana University, he took up master studies at the Utrecht university. His professional careers started in the European Commission offices in Ljubljana and Manila. He is currently working with the International Civilian Office in Kosovo.
