The problem of household waste management in Burundi
Details
In order to analyze the problem of household waste management in Burundi with regard to the Seventh Millennium Development Goal (2000-2015), a study was conducted in Bujumbura City Hall in the outlying urban communes from September 1 to November 30, 2009. In addition to the work of the library, a survey in these localities was conducted using a questionnaire to the local population, the administration and some associations in charge of managing household waste. The results obtained show that household waste is not managed rationally. Most of the respondents emphasized the inefficiency of SETEMU in the collection and disposal of this waste. At the end of this work, it is recommended to the State to grant much more means to SETEMUS on the one hand and a decentralized cooperation between Bujumbura City Council and other cities developed in sanitation techniques in order to benefit from the experience, technical support and or material for a better management of household waste on the other hand.
