The Process of Forming the Image of the Russian Federation

In a modern globalizing world, along with development of economic and military power of a country, the ability to influence foreign and domestic public opinion by force of ideas and by targeted information flows becomes increasingly important. For the contemporary society it is characteristic that in the political system mass media have become the main channel for transmission of information and for changing public opinion. Based on information obtained through various media, the public forms an opinion about what happens. Today, due to the qualitative leap in the development of information technology, mass media have been exerting an increasing influence on politics, culture, economy, and science. The scope of their influence does not coincide with the borders of nation states. In today's global community the competitiveness of a territory, a country, a region depends on the information resources available to them, and on the reputation of these territories.
