The Psychosocial Problems of the Institutionalized Senior Citizen.
Details
An unprecedented demographic changes in the contemporary world coupled with the weakening of family ties because of modernization have exposed a majority of senior citizens to vulnerability. Because of these changes, many of them fall outside the realm of family care. The only support system which exists for their care needs is the institutional care. Therefore, they seek refuge in old age homes for survival, companionship and protection. Institutional care has its own challenges. This study highlights the major problems experienced by the aged of the Anglo-Indian origin in one of the old age homes in Chennai, Southern India.
