THE RECALCITRANT TRIBES

Tribal areas, especially Waziristan, have acquired a renewed mention in the post-cold war era of uni-polar world of the new order. Its geographic contiguity and ethnic affinity with the neighbouring Afghanistan once again makes it the focus of international wrath and internal mess. Being a theatre for thespians of spite and a playing-field for players of Great Game, Waziristan continues to suffer from the realities of geo-strategic existence in global compulsions and regional responses. The centuries-old battle for its survival continues in the pattern of its chequered past. The earth continues to revolve around the lofty mountains and incensed essence.

Arif Khattak, Associate Professor/Director Academics,Iqra University, has also taught at FAST NU and GIKI. He has to his credit 8 books and 7 research papers. He was the first ever South Asia Fellow from Pakistan at the School of Oriental and African Studies. His areas of interest include ESP and language in the politics of South Asia.
