The Restoration of the Old Church

This book forms an assessment and critique of the restoration work conducted on the Old Church at Centocow Mission Station, Ingwe/Dr. Nkosizana Dlamini Zulu Local Municipality, KwaZulu Natal. This restoration work was conducted in 2011 and 2012, and undertaken by Robert Brusse Architects. As the critique employed in this work will demonstrate, it is my opinion that the actual renovation of the Old Church is a great success, mainly in the Stylistic and Historical Approach to Conservation. It has achieved its primary objective as a Tourist Endeavour to a moderate degree. It has however, been more successful in an unprecedented way - the art, ethnographic and historical exhibition has proved to be of great use to the surrounding Bhaca community as a resource into their own traditions, history and culture. In this way the entire endeavor has not only preserved an important historical building, but revitalized it by giving it new life as an important functioning educational resource to the surrounding community.

Sian ist die Autorin des Buches Dogs of Africa, das bis heute ein Standardwerk über den Hund in Afrika ist.
