The Role and Significance of Ornament and Geometry in Alhambra is an Architecture degree essay which explores the details of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. It is a walk-through of the grandiose complex of palaces and gardens, looking at different architectural details seen throughout, such as symbolic Moorish decoration and Islamic calligraphy, and their connection to spirituality in Islam. The essay also partially looks at how this historical ornamentation may be observed, and possibly reproduced, in contemporary architecture.

Nuriyah Malik is a BA (Hons) Architecture graduate from the University of Westminster, London, working towards becoming a fully qualified Architect under the RIBA. Visiting Alhambra on a trip to Granada in 2011 encouraged her further in pursuing an Architecture degree, and this inspiration influenced aspects of her designs.
