This study deals with the Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism (CEWARN) in the Horn of Africa: The Role of IGAD/CEWARN in Extenuating Pastoral Conflicts along the Ethiopia - Kenya Border. The main aim of the research is evaluating the role of the mechanism in extenuating pastoral conflicts in the Ethiopia and Kenya border giving especial emphasis on their shared border that encompasses the Somali cluster (the study area) of CEWARN. The researcher has executed qualitative research method and assessed data gained from interviews, different documents and reports as well as secondary literatures. Triangulations were employed to make objective analysis, come up with sound findings particularly field interviews and focus group discussion, and draw valid conclusions. The study tried to present and explain the origin, structure and functions of CEWARN beside geographical and conflict backgrounds of the study area that have its own role to lay a foundation for readers understand the main theme of the study. Then, the researcher identified findings on the early warning and early response activities of the mechanism in the study area.
