The role of the courts in enforcing electoral rights: Nigeria and U.K

Over the years and in almost every part of the modern world, people have strove to put in place representative governments through the electioneering proces otherwise known as democracy. Democracy itself is gradually being embraced by the peoples of various countries, regions and continents. However, the process of putting in place a representative government through democratic processes is not without twists and turns and in most part of the world including the America, disatisfied politicians go to the law courts to seek legal redress while in other parts, unfortunately, people resort to violence and/or insurgence either because they do not trust the courts or because they dont have the patience to go through the legal process of seeking redress. In this book, Omakoji Friday Abu x-rays the role that the judiciary has played in certain jurisdictions over the years and how that role should be played. The independence of the judiciary and other factors that need to be put in place as necssary sine qua non for an effective mediation of electoral matters are also emphasized in this 4 chapters book.

Abu, Omakoji Friday has a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Nigeria in 1997 and a masters Degree in Comparative Constitutional Law from Central European University, Budapest,Hungary in 2009. He is a private legal practitioner and currently the Principal Partner of REFUGE CHAMBERS, Abuja, Nigeria.
