The semantics of the Oromo motion verb ba'uu 'to go out'
Details
This study has unraveled that the Oromo motion verb ba'uu, with its spatially rooted central sense to go out , gives rise to a number of peripheral senses via what is referred to as metaphorical extension. According to the Contemporary Theory of Metaphor to which recourse has been made to analyze the various metaphorical expressions evoked by this verb, the various meanings that follow from the central meaning of the verb involve conceptual mapping of the more concrete outward movement onto the less concrete outward movements.
